K©n©dougou: The Orodara Detention and Correctional Facility (MACO) marked Nelson Mandela International Day on Thursday, July 18, 2025, with a range of community, sporting, and educational activities. The event saw the participation of administrative and judicial authorities, along with various partners.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the national theme for this year's Nelson Mandela International Day was "The implementation of community service: role of stakeholders and impact on socio-economic development." Celebrations took place at the Orodara Detention and Correctional Facility under the presidency of the High Commissioner of the province of K©n©dougou, represented by Secretary General Bassanma Ko, and sponsored by Drissa Barro.
Inmates and prison staff actively engaged in health days across several public services in the city, including the health district, the High Commission, the town hall, and the courthouse. These initiatives contributed to cleaning public spaces and promoting social integration through community service. A radio program on Radio Voix du Verger facilitated a discussion on the theme of the edition.
Participants also enjoyed recreational activities like aerobics, board games, and free tuberculosis screenings. The day culminated with the Director's Cup final, where Evangelical emerged victorious over Soba FC, winning 2-0 on penalties. The triumphant team received a trophy, a set of jerseys, and an envelope.
Paul Kabor©, the director of the Orodara Detention and Correctional Facility, emphasized that Mandela Day serves as a call to transform prisons into centers for reconstruction. Karim Barro, representing the sponsor, expressed satisfaction with being part of the event. Secretary General Bassanma Ko commended Nelson Mandela's dedication to human dignity.
