Kongoussi: At least 60 road users were ordered to perform community service this Monday morning by the Kongoussi national police, who also seized 77 mopeds and a tricycle, as part of an operation to combat road incivility.According to Burkina Information Agency, sixty people, including four women, sanctioned for various offenses, were mobilized to clean the gutter that runs along the west side of the Kongoussi Medical Center with Surgical Unit (CMA), on National Road 22. Equipped with shovels, picks, and fluorescent vests, the offenders contributed to public health under the supervision of law enforcement. This operation to crack down on traffic violations is part of a drive to make users more responsible, in the face of the increase in non-compliance with the highway code, particularly the use of mobile phones while driving, and failure to comply with traffic lights and signs. "The measure will continue as long as uncivil behavior persists. It's not about punishing for the sake of punishing, but about ed ucating and protecting," said Chief Superintendent Kito Yaya Soulama, provincial director of the Bam national police. Some offenders, despite having accepted the measure, have expressed grievances. This is the case of Jean Ouédraogo, a retail employee in Kongoussi, who shared his concerns about the impact on his work. "I came this Monday morning to pick up my motorcycle, which was seized by the police on Friday, and I was requisitioned. My shop remained closed all day. I hope there won't be another fine to pay, because times are tough," he said. For the president of the Kongoussi special delegation, Abel Dayamba, the approach is salutary. "Road incivility has become a concern in the city. This action aims to reverse the trend and restore respect for traffic rules," he emphasized. The Bam provincial coordination of citizen watch (Wayiyans) provided water to the day's workers, while the Kongoussi municipality made arrangements for their midday meal. The High Commissioner of Bam Province, Karim Ouédraogo, vis ited the scene and urged the population to respect the highway code. As a reminder, the national police continue to call on road users to change their behavior sustainably and announce the continuation of checks in the coming days. On the night of April 29 to 30, it closed a prostitution site, followed by the arrest of the perpetrators in sector 5 of Kongoussi.
