Ouagadougou: The commune of Koper, located in the province of Ioba, initiated the second phase of the National Vector Control Days (JN-LAV) with an awareness session on malaria prevention and sanitation, followed by an operation to destroy larval breeding grounds. According to Burkina Information Agency, the event took place on Saturday, September 5, 2026, and was led by Bli Benjamin Zongo, the head nurse of the Babora post, who represented the President of the Special Delegation (PDS) of Koper.

The session focused on educating the population about effective practices in combating malaria. Discussions emphasized the importance of destroying larval habitats, emptying stagnant water, clearing vegetation around homes and public areas, and the proper and regular use of impregnated mosquito nets.

Following the awareness session, participants actively engaged in a cleanup operation at a site chosen by local authorities near the Fakoul market. Volunteers surveyed surrounding properties to identify potential mosquito breeding areas, which they then effectively eliminated.

At the conclusion of the activity, ICP Bli Benjamin Zongo praised the participants for their efforts and encouraged them to continue these practices in their own homes and surrounding environments.

The local community responded positively to this initiative, appreciating the combination of awareness campaigns with tangible actions. They acknowledged that these measures contribute to reducing mosquito breeding sites and, in turn, help prevent malaria.

The second phase of the JN-LAV aims to bolster community involvement in sanitation and the prevention of vector-borne diseases like malaria.
