Kossi: Community Leaders Equipped for Food and Nutritional Security

Kossi: The special delegation of the commune of Nouna initiated a training session on food security, nutrition, and food equity for community leaders. The session took place on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, and emphasized the critical role of the agricultural sector in providing the population with healthy and nutritious food.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the training focused on equipping community leaders with knowledge about agricultural products that can ensure a balanced diet, especially in areas facing security challenges. Zakaria Soro, the head of the plant production department at the provincial directorate in charge of agriculture, led the session. He highlighted various food groups essential for a balanced diet, including energy foods like bread and cereals, growth foods rich in proteins such as eggs and fish, and protective foods that are rich in micro-nutrients like milk and its derivatives.

Mr. Soro emphasized the necessity of vegetable gardens in homes and nutritious gardens in schools to cultivate a range of crops. He also recommended the practice of short-cycle breeding and the use of improved seeds to enhance yield per unit area. Furthermore, he advocated for the promotion of highly nutritious vegetables such as moringa and baobab leaves.

The training underscored the importance of multifaceted actions to improve food and nutritional conditions. This includes promoting food processing and enhancing the capacities of stakeholders in conservation practices. Participants actively engaged with the content, aiming to improve and balance their consumption patterns.
