Koudougou: The PUDTR on the way to relieving schools with large numbers of students

Thanks to the Emergency Territorial Development and Resilience Project (PUDTR) launched by the Transition, Koudougou schools with large numbers of students are in the process of becoming less congested with the construction of new innovative and inclusive. The regional director in charge of education, Abylaicé Rouamba, went to see first-hand, on Monday August 19, 2024, the progress of the work started last July.In urban areas like Koudougou, the third largest city in Burkina Faso, many schools are experiencing overcrowding. This state of affairs is very detrimental to the quality of education. In Koudougou, this is the case at the schools of Dapoya in sector 1, Teeltaaba in sector 5, Écoles Sud in sector 6 and Wendpanga in sector 9.In some classes, there are even numbers of more than 100 students. Anything that repels the union structures which, for this reason, constantly demand loud and clear respect for the texts which provide for fifty students per class.Such an environment is not intended to impr ove the tranquility of those responsible for education at the local level.Fortunately, thanks to the Transition initiatives which made it possible to launch the emergency territorial development and resilience project (PUDTR), the lines are moving in the Center-West.Indeed, since July, a certain number of schools with large enrollments in Koudougou have benefited from new school infrastructure.By going out into the field on Monday August 19, 2024, the DREPPNF of the Center-West, Abylaicé Rouamba, wanted to ensure the smooth running of the projects. To hear him say, he draws general satisfaction from what he has seen to the extent that, he says, the completion rate of the work is around 50% in less than two months. At the South schools level, for example, the head of monitoring and control, Tanguy Lompo, does not say the opposite when he says: 'the level of work is satisfactory'. And to justify: 'the project is progressing without major difficulties'.At block 2, for example, it is the farm that the w orkers are busy building. Each block, it should be remembered, includes three classrooms, a hall, an office, a store without forgetting the modern latrines which take into account ramps for people with reduced mobility. The observation showed on the different sites that the construction sites are progressing normally. Moreover, the managers of these construction companies promise to deliver the classrooms on time for the next school year. The CEO of the EOM company, Moumini Ouedraogo, welcomed the approach of the DREPPNF who came to encourage them in their task. All things considered, the DREPPNF is extremely pleased with this initiative from the highest authorities which only improves the quality of education in the region. In the sense that with this possibility of unclogging classrooms, we gain in several respects. Firstly in the social climate since this will ease tensions between union structures and those responsible for education. Then, in quality because teachers will be comfortable dealing with small numbers. Finally, parents of students can only rejoice in the best learning conditions for their offspring.Mr. Rouamba wanted to warmly salute and thank "this good action" of the country's first authorities, includingthe president of the Legislative Assembly of the Transition, who was kind enough to offer the blocks at the level of the Dapoya schools. He is a very happy regional director who returned to his office because something concrete is being done on the ground for the quality of teaching and which will make it possible to meet the challenges.Source: Burkina Information Agency
