Kourittenga: An Association Strengthens Producers’ Skills in the Area of Runoff Water Collection Basins

Kourittenga: The Association Nourish Without Destroying (ANSD) held a workshop in Gounghin on Friday, January 30, 2026, to share experiences and knowledge on stormwater harvesting basins (BCERs). The aim was to enable stakeholders involved in their promotion to improve rainwater harvesting systems. The meeting was chaired by Fran§ois Xavier Lesogo, President of the Special Delegation (PDS) of the Gounghin municipality.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the workshop brought together more than fifty producers and technicians from the agricultural sector. The meeting allowed stakeholders to identify good practices around BCERs, understand the constraints and challenges in their implementation, and draw lessons from them.

Tsuamba Bourgou, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the ANSD association, expressed satisfaction with the producers' commitment, noting that they have reaped profits beyond expectations. To promote good practices around BCERs, three villages were rewarded with equipment donations, including carts and wheelbarrows, after an evaluation by a jury.

The association aims to strengthen farmers' capacities to contribute to food security and combat poverty through protecting natural resources, agroecology, and promoting gender equality. Bourgou emphasized the ANSD's focus on training, innovation, and vision, stating that initiatives will be taken to address recommendations.

Cyrile Karim Dahani, a rural development engineer at NGO Iles de Paix, encouraged farmers to popularize BCERs. He highlighted that runoff water collection basins are beneficial and profitable for various agricultural practices and household needs in the context of climate change.

Abdoul Karim Nasr©, a producer in Gounghin, shared his success with a BCER, producing tons of rice and practicing off-season farming. He urged producers to adopt rainwater harvesting systems suited to their capabilities.
