Kourittenga: The High Commission of Kourittenga and the Royal Court of Koupela hosted tree-planting ceremonies on Saturday, June 20, 2026, as part of the “Patriotic Hour to Green Burkina Faso” operation, launched throughout the country. The population was encouraged to care for and protect the planted trees.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the activity was carried out by the active forces of the province, headed by the High Commissioner of the province of Kourittenga, Moctar Ilboudo, supported by the provincial directorate of Water and Forests of Kourittenga.
On the occasion of this year’s National Tree Day 2026, themed “My concession, my tree”, more than 3,000 seedlings, mobilized by the Provincial Directorate of Water and Forests, for the benefit of decentralized and deconcentrated structures of the State, religious communities as well as the population, were planted.
The provincial director of Water and Forests, Soumaila Komi, called on the population to address the three environmental threats: stray animals, excessive logging, and bushfires.
“This is a welcome initiative from the highest authorities in the country and I urge the people to take care of the planted seedlings so that we can effectively combat deforestation and contribute to the restoration of vegetation cover,” he insisted.
The High Commissioner of the province of Kourittenga, Moctar Ilboudo, said he was satisfied with the mobilization of the vital forces who have taken ownership of the initiative since past editions and with all activities falling within the framework of said day.
“It is pointless to plant the seedlings; the commendable act would be to maintain and protect them. That is why I urge the people to take care of these seedlings so that the government’s objective can be achieved,” said Mr. Ilboudo.
