Kourweogo: The Muslim community of the commune of Niou celebrated Eid al-Fitr on Friday, March 20, 2026, in Niou. Sheikh El Hadj Ousmane Ouedraogo called for tolerance and mutual respect among the different communities.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the celebration was marked by an atmosphere of religious devotion as the Muslim faithful intensified their prayers and invocations to Allah, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan. Sheikh El Hadj Ousmane Ouedraogo emphasized the profound meaning of the day, highlighting the importance of accepting others in their beliefs and sharing.
El Hadj Ouedraogo also underscored the need to strengthen social cohesion, urging people to cultivate tolerance and mutual respect as essential aspects of community living. He offered prayers for the return of peace to Burkina Faso and the protection of the country's highest authorities.
The event was attended by representatives from various religious denominations and administrative authorities. In a show of solidarity, Naba Kougri of Zimidin, representing traditional religion, affirmed that unity among Muslims, Christians, and followers of traditional religions is crucial for peace.
Saidou Ouedraogo, the first deputy of the special delegation, expressed wishes for health, happiness, and a quick return of peace to Burkina Faso. The celebration extended into family gatherings, characterized by shared meals in a warm and communal atmosphere.
