Kourw©ogo High Commissioner Calls for Heritage Promotion During Burkinabe Heritage Month

Kourw©ogo: The High Commissioner of the Kourw©ogo province, Mahamadi Congo, urged the communities of the province to make known their heritage, both tangible and intangible, during the launch of the 3rd edition of the Burkinabe Heritage Month.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Heritage Month, which was launched in Bouss©, is dedicated to cultural and tourism promotion, in the presence of administrative, customary, religious, and community authorities. The event, marked by tributes to the national colors and various speeches, aims to highlight local cultural riches while strengthening social unity through collective memory.

The High Commissioner emphasized the importance of this period, from April 18 to May 18, as an opportunity to revisit cultural heritage and extract the values that forge Burkinab¨ identity. He urged the province's communities to promote their tangible and intangible heritage and encourage the practice of endogenous tourism. Mahamadi Congo also invited the diaspora to take ownership of this cultural dynamic to promote Kourw©ogo as a destination.

"This celebration helps strengthen the resilience of populations in the face of current challenges and consolidate social cohesion through the rediscovery of shared cultural references," he said, emphasizing the central role of culture in sustainable development. Under the theme "Cultural Heritage and Economic Development," this edition is also intended to promote local tourism.

According to the High Commissioner, better promotion of local heritage could stimulate the economy through the growth of tourism-related activities such as crafts, hotels, and restaurants. He praised the efforts of local cultural stakeholders and encouraged initiatives aimed at documenting, preserving, and transmitting traditional knowledge.

Burkinabe Heritage Month, celebrated annually nationwide, aims to recall the importance of culture in building a resilient, prosperous, and united Burkina Faso. In Kourw©ogo, several activities are planned throughout the month, including visits to historical sites.
