Le Voisin Solidaire Raises Drug Awareness Through Theatre in Ouagadougou

Ouagadougou: The association "Le voisin solidaire" held a general assembly on Sunday, during which it raised awareness among young people about the dangers associated with drug use through a play by the troupe of the Directorate of Arts and Culture of the National Police.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the general meeting of the association began with a theatrical performance aimed at educating participants on the perils of drug use. The association's president, Joseph Tanga Tapsoba, emphasized that their objective is to enlighten young people about the harmful effects of drugs and uncivil behavior. "Burkina Faso is suffering from its youth. The future of our neighborhood is its youth. We wanted to take action that would raise awareness among young people to avoid the scourges of drugs, alcohol, incivility, and others," Tapsoba stated.

He further expressed the importance of this initiative, noting that those present at the meeting will act as ambassadors, spreading the message beyond their neighborhood. The General Assembly not only focused on drug awareness but also provided a platform for the association's office, established since March 3, 2024, to review past activities and adopt a future program.

Members of the association unanimously agreed to hold exchange meetings with residents of the Dassasgho neighborhood, promote sports, and organize monthly health days. Their initiatives include street-by-street tree planting, enhancing public lighting in the Dassasgho district, and combating insecurity, noise pollution, prostitution, and stray animals.

Founded in 2000, "Le voisin solidaire" operates in sector 22 of the Dassasgho district in Ouagadougou. The association focuses on fostering solidarity and trust among members, enhancing good neighborly relations, and improving the quality of life and living environment for the residents.
