Sissili: A 10-member committee has been established to bring the administration closer to citizens in the municipality of Leo. The urban commune of Leo now has a Municipal Accountability Committee (CCR) for the Pro-Arides program. The official installation ceremony for the members of this body took place on Thursday, July 2, 2026, in the conference room of the Leo town hall, under the chairmanship of the Prefect, President of the Special Delegation (PDS) of the commune, Kassoum Koalaga.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Leo Municipal Accountability Committee (CCR) is composed of 10 members and has seen the appointment by consensus of its executive board, comprised of three officers. This committee was officially installed by the PDS, Kassoum Koalaga, following a workshop that presented its composition, missions, and objectives.
The CCR is part of the implementation of the Agri-Food Program for Integrated Resilience and Economic Development in the Sahel (Pro-Arides). According to Pro-Arides project manager Ollo Fabrice Da, this initiative falls under the program's "Trajectory 5," dedicated to governance issues, which supports local authorities in restoring the social contract. "Pro-Arides is not a humanitarian program but a development program," emphasized Fabrice Ollo Da, specifying that its main objective remains food security within a multi-country area covering Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger.
According to the project manager, the committee's primary mission will be to serve as a bridge between the population and the municipal authorities. "It will conduct awareness campaigns to encourage citizens to take an active interest in the management of their municipality. In turn, this committee will constitute a vital channel allowing the population to voice their real concerns to the highest levels of municipal leadership," he explained, while urging members to be "exemplary citizens."
In his inaugural address, the Prefect, President of the Special Delegation of Leo, Kassoum Koalaga, congratulated the new members before outlining a roadmap focused on good governance. He urged them to demonstrate integrity and impartiality, and to promote transparency without confrontation. "Accountability is a tool for improving governance, not an instrument of division," the Prefect asserted.
Comrade Koalaga emphasized the need to preserve social cohesion through mutual dialogue and respect for the law, while reassuring committee members of the municipality's willingness to support their activities. "Together, let's make this committee a true framework for dialogue, trust, and continuous improvement of local governance," he concluded.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, the newly elected president of the Leo Community Development Committee (CCR), Abdoul Azize Napon, a local producer himself, expressed his gratitude and determination to successfully complete the mission. "On behalf of the entire population, I am confident that we will successfully carry out the mission entrusted to us this morning," he declared, affirming that this success will depend on everyone's commitment, the support of the community, and the continued backing of local authorities.
