Leraba Child Protection Network Achieves 70% Activity Completion in Mid-Term Assessment

Leraba: The Child Protection Network (RPE) of the province of Leraba held its second general meeting of the year in Sindou, reporting a 70% completion rate of scheduled activities for the first half of 2025. The meeting, which took place on Thursday, September 4, 2025, focused on evaluating the progress of efforts to provide social protection for children in need.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the RPE was established to ensure adequate care for children requiring social protection in Leraba, the second province of the Tannounyan region. Following the action plan set during its first general meeting on February 7, 2025, the RPE conducted a mid-term assessment to review the activities carried out so far this year.

The RPE rapporteur, Ousmane Ouedraogo, who is also the provincial director in charge of humanitarian action in Leraba, presented a report detailing the network’s initiatives. These included placing children in distress in foster families, providing emergency placement kits, and offering emergency care for children who have experienced violence and abuse. From January to June 2025, a total of 165 children, comprising 78 girls and 87 boys, were registered as needing protection by the department of humanitarian actions in Leraba.

The RPE is a collaborative structure bringing together various public utility entities, including state services, NGOs, associations, and community organizations, all dedicated to child protection within the province. Mr. Ouedraogo highlighted the importance of using toll-free numbers for anonymously reporting issues, reassuring the public about their safety and confidentiality.

Mr. Ouedraogo also noted that food, schooling, and child marriage are the most frequent issues reported to municipal social services. He emphasized the need for family reconnection to facilitate the return of children to their families and appealed for additional support from partners to address these challenges.

Massadiamy Hema, the RPE coordinator and central commissioner of the national police of Sindou, expressed gratitude to UNICEF for its support in implementing RPE activities. He voiced satisfaction with the achievements reported in the mid-term review.
