Lilma’s Team Clinches Victory Over Basra in OSCEP 2026 Showdown

Sandbondtenga: The Lilma school boys' football team won the 2026 Primary School Sports and Culture Organization (OSCEP) trophy for the Ziga Basic Education District on Saturday, beating their challenger Basra 8-7 on penalties, thus offering a resounding revenge after their defeat in 2025.

According to Burkina Information Agency, having lost to Basra last year, Lilma managed to turn the tide this year. After a first half dominated by Basra (1-0), Lilma came back to equalize in the second half, forcing the match to a penalty shootout.

More skillful and lucky, she prevailed 8 shots to 7, thus winning the trophy for the 2026 edition.

In addition to the trophy, Lilma received an envelope containing 35,000 FCFA, a set of jerseys, a ball and school kits.

Basra, in second place, went home with 25,000 FCFA, a set of jerseys, a ball, and school supplies. The Bokin school team, third in the standings, was rewarded with 20,000 FCFA, a ball, and school supplies, while Ziga B, the fourth-place team, received only school supplies.

Held under the patronage of Amadou Konvolobo, President of the Special Delegation (PDS) of the Ziga municipality, the 2026 edition of the Ziga OSCEP also featured cultural competitions and women's cycling. The top participants received cash and in-kind prizes.

The Head of the Basic Education District (CEB) of Ziga, Edmond Ou©draogo, welcomed the positive outcome of this edition, the result of the commitment of the teaching staff and the spirit of fraternity and fair play which prevailed throughout the competitions.

"Beyond competition, sport is a school of discipline, perseverance and self-improvement," he reminded.

The PDS emphasized that "sport helps to form responsible citizens. It teaches us to respect the rules, to accept victory with humility and defeat with dignity."

He also stressed the importance of cultural activities, stating that "culture is the mirror of our identity and the cement of our social cohesion. It connects us to our roots while opening us up to the world."
