Lionel Bilgo Case Postponed to October 19 for Appeal Decision

Bobo-Dioulasso:The Lionel Bilgo case has been postponed until October 19th, pending a decision from the Court of Appeal.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Economic and Financial Division (ECOFI) of the High Court (TGI) of Bobo-Dioulasso postponed the case involving Lionel Bilgo and his co-defendant Vincent de Paul Kabore. This decision was made pending the Court of Appeal's ruling on two appeals introduced by the defense.

The charges against Lionel Bilgo and Vincent de Paul Kabore include alleged illegal land transactions, advertising of real estate development without prior authorization, and money laundering. Despite being summoned to appear before the ECOFI unit, the trial did not proceed on the scheduled date.

During the hearing, the prosecutor of Faso requested the adjournment, suggesting it was preferable to join the proceedings to allow the defendants adequate time to prepare their defense. This approach was deemed more suitable than conducting a separate trial before the appeals court's decision.

The defense, however, preferred for the case to be heard and judged immediately. Meanwhile, the State's legal agent, defending the interests of the Burkinabe State, also asked for a delay to prepare his defense properly.

Ultimately, the Economic and Financial Division decided to adjourn the case to October 19, 2026. The next hearing is expected to reassess the case in light of the Court of Appeal's forthcoming decision on the defense's appeals.
