Ouagadougou: Dr. Lassina Simpor© presented on Friday evening, "Elements of the History of a Kingdom Capital," a book that explores the origins of the city of Ouagadougou through its geographical, historical, and cultural dimensions.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Dr. Simpor©, a teacher and historian, explained his motivations for writing this book. He discussed the lack of educational content on Burkina Faso's history in school curricula, a gap he hopes to fill. "My commitment is to contribute to the writing of our history so that it is better taught and accessible to all," he emphasized.
The author also focuses on spelling errors in place names inherited from the colonial era and, in collaboration with linguists, proposes corrections based on in-depth research. The book explores the origins of the city of Ouagadougou through its geographical, historical, and cultural dimensions. It addresses settlement dynamics and neighborhood specificities, and includes a small dictionary in Moor©, allowing readers to reconnect with their linguistic heritage.
The book costs 10,000 CFA francs at Mercury and Jeunesse d'Afrique bookstores. It aims to be a key educational resource for pupils, students, and researchers. "History must move beyond museums and into our conversations and commitments," said Dr. Simpor©, calling on those attending the book signing to be the first ambassadors of this work.
This dedication was marked by exchanges between the author and the participants, strengthening intergenerational dialogue and promoting the cultural identity of Ouagadougou. Dr. Simpor© also highlighted the challenges associated with book distribution in Burkina Faso. He called for better organization of the distribution chain to enable the widespread dissemination of literary works.
The book was presented at a literary evening organized by the Yelba restaurant to promote reading, books, and authors from Burkina Faso. During the evening, the book was sold to participants for 5,000 CFA francs.
