Poni: The Loropeni Basic Education District (CEB) launched its 2026 sports and cultural activities on Friday, under the theme "Resilience and Bravery", in the presence of administrative, customary and religious authorities, teachers, and students of the district.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the ceremony began with the students from Centre A school in Loropeni performing the national anthem in the Lobiri language, followed by a parade of the different schools of the CEB and traditional dance performances. Inspector Moussa Da, representing the head of the basic education district, commended the mobilization of authorities, educational stakeholders, the Defense and Security Forces (FDS), and the community of Masak´ for their support of education.
Inspector Da highlighted the importance of sports and cultural activities in the education system, noting that they are essential complements to academic teaching. He explained that sports help students develop teamwork, discipline, respect for rules, fair play, and self-improvement, while cultural activities promote appreciation of traditions, national identity, creativity, and tolerance.
He further indicated that these activities are both an administrative and educational obligation and demonstrate the commitment of the CEB of Loropeni to align with the Ministry of Basic Education, Literacy and Promotion of National Languages (MEBAPLN) vision for a quality school that promotes excellence and the development of learners. Da encouraged students to exhibit discipline, mutual respect, and healthy competition, emphasizing that victory should not cause division but rather inspire further improvement.
Inspector Da also called on teachers, supervisors, and organizers to maintain their efforts in ensuring the competitions run smoothly, with fairness, transparency, and responsibility. Sissa Farma, representing the president of the special delegation of the commune of Loropeni, reiterated the importance of sports and culture in primary education, stressing that sports teach discipline and respect, while cultural activities through songs and dances reinforce roots and collective identity.
This session involves 25 football teams, 25 teams in archery and athletics, and one school representing the district in cultural activities, including pottery. The ceremony concluded with a gala match between Kassita school and Friendship school, which ended in a draw.
