L©raba: The High Commissioner of L©raba Province, Yacouba Sawadogo, presided over the opening ceremony of the Festival of Traditions, known as FESTRAWO, in Wolokonto, a rural commune situated 25 km east of Sindou. The festival, marking its first edition, commenced on Friday, May 15, 2026, under the theme: 'Cultural Identity Facing the Challenges of Modernity.'
According to Burkina Information Agency, the event's president, Djakalia Son, emphasized that this inaugural edition is more than just a festive gathering; it is a moment for reconnecting, sharing, and celebrating the cultural heritage of the region. The festival aligns with current policies aimed at valuing and promoting traditional cultures and values, offering a platform to showcase the culture and tourist sites of L©raba province.
The festival spans two days, from May 15 to 16, 2026, and features various activities. The first day included a demonstration of bandji extraction, a natural beverage drawn from a palm tree used in traditional rituals by the host population. The event also featured a display of the dance of the sorcerers, demonstrations of traditional power, and presentations of ancient objects, followed by a tasting session of traditional dishes.
FESTRAWO aims to bring together the people of L©raba on May 15th each year to celebrate their cultures through education, sharing, and rejoicing in the rich traditions and customs of the different communities. The festival also witnessed a strong mobilization of the Fulani population, keen to present their traditions.
High Commissioner Yacouba Sawadogo conveyed the message of the Head of State, Captain Ibrahim Traor©, to the attendees and commended Wolokonto for its significant contribution to Faso Mªbo in Banfora. Ibrahim Kob©, representing the Presidency of Faso for the Tannounyan region, urged the youth of Wolokonto to ensure that visits to ancient objects lead to reflections on safeguarding peace and sovereignty.
