Bamako: Several people, including a French intelligence agent, accused of wanting to destabilize Mali, were arrested on Friday, August 1, 2025, according to a statement from the Malian government received today by AIB.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Malian government has announced the arrest of a small group of individuals from the Malian Armed Forces and Security Forces. These individuals are accused of engaging in criminal activities aimed at destabilizing the nation's institutions. Among those arrested is a French national, V©zilier Yann, who is alleged to be working on behalf of the French intelligence service.
V©zilier Yann is reported to have mobilized political leaders, civil society actors, and military personnel, including Brigadier Generals Abass Demb©l© and N©ma Sagara. The government has expressed concern that while Mali is focused on consolidating its sovereignty and combating the terrorist forces of the Confederation of Sahel States, some military personnel and civilians, with foreign assistance, are attempting to undermine the country's stability.
The Malian government stated that the conspiracy was thwarted due to the professionalism and vigilance of specialized services, leading to the arrests on August 1, 2025. The statement, dated August 14, 2025, and signed by Major General Abdoulaye Maga, the Minister in charge of Territorial Administration, condemns the subversive act and assures the public that judicial investigations are ongoing to uncover potential accomplices.
General Maga emphasized that the National Armed Forces and Security Forces are committed to their mission of combating terrorism in all forms. He reassured the public that the situation is under control and urged them to remain calm while staying vigilant against any further attempts at destabilization.
