Mali Suspends French TV Channels for Alleged Terrorism Glorification

Bamako: Mali’s High Authority for Communication (HAC) has suspended two French television channels, LCI and TF1, until further notice, accusing them of glorifying terrorism, inciting destabilization, and spreading false news.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the suspension follows allegations that the channels committed serious breaches of ethics and professional conduct. These violations were reportedly detected in the program “Grand dossier” of LCI, which aired on Sunday, November 9, 2025. TF1 allegedly amplified these violations by publishing content from the program on its web page the same day, with titles such as “Mali, the Jihadists at the gates of Bamako” and “Mali, the new stronghold of Al-Qaeda.”

The HAC accuses the media outlets of glorifying terrorism, defaming authorities, inciting destabilization, and disseminating false news. The regulatory body emphasized the responsibility of journalists to respect the truth and ensure the publication of verified information only. They also urged journalists to include necessary reservations if the information is not verified, and to correct any inaccuracies.

In its decision, the HAC highlighted the importance of journalists adhering to ethical standards and the public’s right to know the truth, underscoring the need for accuracy and accountability in media reporting.
