The Department of Health, North West Province MEC, Madoda Sambatha hits the ground on Monday, 24 May 2021 to lead the door to door campaign with a team to assist with registration for vaccination of persons 60 years and above targeting rural areas of the province. The door to door assisted registration started in Tshing, Ventersdorp in the JB Marks Local Municipality in the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District.
“This strategic move is aimed at boosting the numbers of eligible vaccinees to access the registration infrastructures like the Electronic Vaccination Data System, EVDS to access Covid-19 vaccine once available in their areas” added MEC Madoda Sambatha
The assisted registration teams are targeting persons with limited access to the system due to lack of required gadgets and network connectivity to internet as well as the communities living in the borders with Botswana where the dominant network is not South African network providers.
“As a province we have already registered just over 100 000 of our target vaccinees on the Electronic Vaccination Data System, EVDS since 17 May 2021 when we launched the Phase 2 of the vaccination programme, this is a significant tick up but we still call for more intensive campaigns to be undertaken to amplify the registration to meet our provincial target” said MEC Madoda Sambatha.
The department of Health is currently administering vaccination at 10 active sites across the province located in its facilities as well as various Old Age Homes. To date the province has administered 48 222 vaccines to eligible persons including healthcare workers. Additional 5 sites will be operational from the 31 May 2021 to accelerate access to vaccination.
