Bobo-Dioulasso:The Minister of State, Minister of Agriculture, Water, Animal and Fisheries Resources, Commander Ismaël Sombi, visited the 'Yr Ta' farm of the Burkinabe Council of Agropastoral and Fisheries Sectors (CBF) on Saturday, October 10, 2026, as part of the monitoring of the 2026-2027 agropastoral campaign.
According to Burkina Information Agency, during his visit, Minister Sombi assessed the progress made by the CBF in enhancing production capacity, increasing seed and food product availability, and promoting good agricultural practices. Clment Attiou, Director General of the CBF, highlighted that 243 hectares had been cultivated this season, focusing on seed production, food crops, and fruit tree cultivation.
The farm dedicates approximately 36 hectares to seed production, with 17.6 hectares for cowpeas and 17 hectares for maize. Food crops cover nearly 150 hectares, while around 80 hectares are allocated to fruit production, primarily cashew nuts and mangoes. These efforts reflect CBF's commitment to improving the supply of seeds and agricultural products to rural communities and maximizing the site's productive potential.
The Minister emphasized the importance of maintaining progress after the rainy season and urged CBF officials to enhance irrigation systems to support increased production during the dry season. He suggested expanding the range of crops to include high-potential varieties such as oil palm, grapevines, plantains, and cocoa, to transform the "Yr Ta" farm into a demonstration plot showcasing diverse crops and effective practices.
This strategy aims to better utilize the site's agricultural potential, ensure consistent year-round production, and diversify promising sectors. The visit underscored the significance of initiatives that boost national production capacities and enhance Burkina Faso's agricultural potential. CBF's challenge is now to build on achievements, intensify production, and turn "Yr Ta" into a model of good agricultural practices, benefiting producers and contributing to national food sovereignty.
