Gourma/health: The Minister of Health and Public Hygiene, Dr. Robert Jean-Claude Kargougou, conducted a surprise inspection of several health facilities in Fada N'Gourma during the night from Saturday to Sunday. The visit aimed to assess the realities of the on-call service and ensure the continuity of patient care.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the minister arrived at the University Hospital Center (CHU) of Fada N'Gourma at 9:15 p.m., accompanied by a delegation. They toured various departments including the emergency department, maternity ward, pediatric emergency department, operating room, and medical analysis laboratory. The delegation noted the presence of on-call teams and evaluated the conditions for patient care during nighttime hours.
The inspection continued at the Sector 3 Medical Centre, which was inaugurated eight months prior. Here, Minister Kargougou visited the dispensary, maternity ward, and pharmacy depot, observing the overall functioning of the facility and the availability of essential pharmaceutical products.
The final stop was the Sector 11 Medical Centre, where similar inspections were carried out. Minister Kargougou emphasized the purpose of his visit was to understand the challenges faced by healthcare workers and ensure the continuity of services. He highlighted the necessity for health services to operate "7 days a week and 24 hours a day."
The minister's visit was well-received by the on-call staff. Salimata Kafando, a midwife at Fada N'Gourma University Hospital, expressed her appreciation, noting that the visit occurred just after her team had handled a delivery. She stated that the visit provided additional motivation for the staff, reinforcing their commitment to their roles.
During the tour, Minister Kargougou acknowledged the poor state of infrastructure at the Fada N'Gourma University Hospital. He assured both the public and health workers of plans to improve the technical facilities, including the government's initiative to construct nine Regional University Hospital Centers, with Fada N'Gourma prioritized for development beginning in 2026.
In conclusion, Dr. Kargougou urged healthcare professionals to adhere to professional ethics, maintain work schedules, and follow duty rosters. He commended the staff for their dedication and availability, emphasizing the importance of providing a professional and compassionate reception for patients, particularly during night hours.
