Ouagadougou: The Minister of Servants of the People, Mathias Traoré, together with the Minister of Health, Dr. Robert Lucien Jean-Claude Kargougou, conducted a field tour on Sunday, visiting several health facilities in Ouagadougou to assess the effectiveness of the pilot phase of the Universal Health Insurance Scheme (RAMU).According to Burkina Information Agency, this visit is part of the broader vision of President Captain Ibrahim Traoré and Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean-Emmanuel Ouédraogo, who prioritize improving equitable access to quality healthcare. Following the launch of the Presidential Initiative for Health (IPS), the RAMU represents a significant step in reforming the national healthcare system.The ministerial team visited key locations including the Yalgado Ouédraogo University Hospital Center (CHU), the Somgandé Urban Center, and the Bogodogo University Hospital Center, where they examined the operational aspects of the system, from patient reception to medication dispensing.Minister Mathi as Traoré expressed satisfaction with the findings from the field. He noted the presence of motivated staff and a well-defined patient pathway in each facility, which he believes supports the effective implementation of the RAMU.Ousmane Néré, Director General of the Yalgado Ouédraogo University Hospital, highlighted that healthcare facilities were engaged at every stage of the implementation process. He stated that stakeholders were trained and sensitized to ensure seamless care for insured individuals, covering everything from patient registration to medication dispensing.On the beneficiaries' side, Zakaria Gamsoré, who has been insured for three months, shared that the RAMU has significantly reduced his healthcare costs. He reported a notable decrease in his medical expenses, attributing this relief to the health insurance.Soumaila Gamsoré, Director General of the National Universal Health Insurance Fund (CNAMU), remarked that the successful launch of RAMU is the result of eighteen years of planning. He emphasized the need for communication to enhance understanding and acceptance of the system.Minister Mathias Traoré also announced that 25 on-call pharmacies in Ouagadougou and an additional 25 in Bobo-Dioulasso are prepared to fulfill prescriptions for insured individuals. He urged all stakeholders to commit responsibly to ensure the success of the RAMU, stressing that health remains a collective good and calling for the preservation and strengthening of this mechanism of national solidarity.
