Ouagadougou: The ministers in charge of Energy, Yacouba Zabr© Gouba, Secondary Education, Moumouni Zoungrana, and Higher Education, Pr Adjima Thiombiano, recorded, on Saturday, respective execution rates of 61.7%, 52.34%, and 55.86% at the mid-term of their performance contracts, during their evaluation by the Prime Minister, Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ou©draogo.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Minister of Energy, Mines and Quarries, Yacouba Zabr© Gouba, achieved the highest performance among the three departments with a completion rate of 61.7%. His contract is focused on five specific objectives and six priority areas, with the aim of accelerating reforms in the energy and mining sectors. In the mining sector, nine new artisanal cooperatives have been established, and four mining corridors have been demarcated to promote better organization of extractive activities.
Gold production monitoring has been enhanced, leading to significant outputs. As of June 30, 2026, industrial mines produced approximately 26 tonnes of fine gold, while the National Society of Precious Substances (SONASP) collected nearly 29 tonnes from artisanal operations, against an annual forecast of 45 tonnes. In energy, four power plants have been completed, adding 126.4 megawatts to the grid, including the Zagtouli solar power plant. Gouba attributed these accomplishments to the unified effort within the sectors to bolster Burkina Faso’s energy and mining sovereignty.
Minister of Secondary Education and Vocational and Technical Training, Moumouni Zoungrana, achieved a physical execution rate of 52.34%, improving by 4.51 points from the previous year. His ministry is implementing reforms to enhance training opportunities, including legislation for institutions offering blended learning programs. New specialized facilities are being developed in Orodara, Bagr©, and Samendeni, alongside the upcoming Technological Academy of Faso. Civic and patriotic training in schools has been reinforced, preparing for a mandatory patriotic immersion program set for July 27 to August 26, 2026.
Professor Adjima Thiombiano, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, reported an implementation rate of 55.86%, driven by reforms in new Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs and the evaluation of higher education institutions. Investment in university infrastructure continues to improve academic conditions, with a reported normalization rate of 97% for the academic year. Scientific research efforts have been directed toward national development needs, with 12.8 billion FCFA allocated to the Special Contribution for Research and Innovation (CORI), focusing on sectors like wheat, sorghum, tomato, mango, and cashew.
