Ouagadougou: The Governor of the Bankui region, Babo Pierre Bassinga, presided over the official opening of the first sales point of the commissary of the 5th military region in D©dougou. The event, held on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, was attended by officials of the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) along with several local authorities.
According to Burkina Information Agency, this initiative, led by military authorities, aims to enhance the living and working conditions of personnel deployed in the field by providing them access to basic necessities and products at controlled costs. The opening ceremony saw a significant mobilization of the various corps of the defense and security forces of D©dougou, highlighting the importance of this logistical and social support system.
Lieutenant-Colonel Idrissa Sosthene Coulibaly, the commander of the 5th military region, emphasized that this first point of sale serves as an accessible and reliable supply source, offering essential products under favorable conditions. The initiative is part of a broader framework of solidarity, discipline, and rigorous management in service of all. He noted that the opening of this outlet is a direct response to the daily needs of forces and their families, aiming to improve living conditions, strengthen well-being, and support morale.
The Director General of the Supply Corps of the Defense and Security Forces, Intendant Colonel Yves Borema Bado, stated that this structure, established by decree on April 10, 2025, aligns with the Head of State's vision to enhance logistical and social support for personnel engaged in securing the territory. The initiative is seen as a strategic tool to boost troop morale and ease the supply burden on families, reflecting national solidarity.
The supply system, which has its roots in the former army commissary (1981-1990), aims to provide staple foods and equipment at social prices to the defense and security forces and their families. It manages the acquisition, storage, and distribution of necessary products like rice, oil, sugar, and pasta, along with equipment such as motorcycles, televisions, and refrigerators. Payments can be made via "EcoCard," mobile money, or balance deductions, as detailed by the Director General.
Governor Babo Pierre Bassinga praised the operationalization of the Economat as a significant advancement in supporting the fighting forces. He remarked that beyond its social mission, the Economat plays a vital role in boosting the national economy by promoting local products and expertise.
The ceremony's highlight was the symbolic ribbon-cutting, followed by a presentation of the products and facilities. Participants observed the availability and range of products offered, meeting the essential needs of the beneficiaries. Following the ceremony, several customers visited the sales point to purchase products. Through this initiative, authorities aim to strengthen national solidarity in support of the defense and security forces dedicated to preserving territorial integrity and ensuring the security of the population.
