Mouhoun Residents Rehabilitate Key Road to Combat Seasonal Traffic Challenges

Mouhoun: Residents of the commune of Djissasso, situated roughly seven kilometers from Tch©riba, embarked on a significant road rehabilitation project to restore a two-kilometer stretch of road that links their village with the main town of the commune. This initiative began on Friday, June 19, 2026, under the leadership of Nestor Balou, who serves as the president of both the Djissasso Village Development Council (CVD) and the CVDs for the commune of Tch©riba.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the project aims to address the annual traffic disruptions caused by heavy rains, which result in runoff water and mud accumulation, hindering the movement of people and goods. This has particularly impacted the transportation of patients, including pregnant women, to Tch©riba due to the absence of a Health and Social Promotion Centre (CSPS) in Djissasso.

The community's decision to tackle this issue collectively stemmed from the pressing need to improve accessibility. Despite launching the project the previous year, limited time and resources stalled completion. Renewed efforts this year saw the community coming together with a strong resolve to finish the task.

From early morning, residents of all ages gathered at the site, equipped with tools funded by their own contributions. While men focused on the physical tasks of backfilling and leveling the road, women supported the initiative by preparing meals for the volunteers.

The concerted effort resulted in the swift completion of the roadwork, bringing relief to the residents who have long faced seasonal travel difficulties. The CVD chairman, Nestor Balou, lauded the community's unwavering commitment and noted that while the development is not a permanent solution, it will significantly ease the challenges faced during the rainy season.

Ouesseni Logora, the President of the special delegation (PDS) of the commune of Tch©riba, praised the people of Djissasso for their solidarity and community spirit, which exemplifies the civic engagement and "Faso Bara" concept promoted by the nation's leadership. This achievement highlights the potential of local communities to devise solutions for their immediate needs, complementing broader development efforts by the State and local authorities.
