Mouhoun Targets 400 Billion CFA Francs for Patriotic Support Fund in 2026

Dédougou: The High Commissioner of the Mouhoun Province, Basouleymane Ouattara, presided over a regional accountability conference on the Patriotic Support Fund (FSP) for key stakeholders in the Bankui and Sourou regions. He announced a fundraising target of 400 billion CFA francs for the year 2026.According to Burkina Information Agency, the conference aimed to consolidate national solidarity and civic engagement for the complete reconquest of the territory. It witnessed the participation of administrative, military, paramilitary, customary and religious authorities, as well as representatives from the Bakui and Sourou regions. High Commissioner Ouattara highlighted the origins and contributions of the Patriotic Support Fund, noting that approximately 74% of the territory has been liberated from armed groups.Commander Bako, representing the Brigade of Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (BVDP), presented the fund's report, showing an increase in mobilizations from 99.03 billion CFA francs in 2023 to 222 billion in 2025. Despite this progress, he emphasized the ongoing significant needs at the front.The report revealed cumulative expenditures exceeding 520 billion CFA francs over three years, mainly for recruitment, training, and equipping of fighting forces, bonuses to Volunteers for the Defence of the Homeland (VDP), and financing the 'Faso Mêbo' initiative for road infrastructure. Regional treasurer Sokiere Hien highlighted the various channels for contributing to the FSP but lamented a decline in voluntary contributions, urging a patriotic push to meet the 2026 target.In response to transparency concerns, Commander Bako reassured participants about regular audits by the High Authority for State Control and the Fight against Corruption (ASCE/LC), as directed by the President of Faso. Recommendations included strengthening awareness campaigns, organizing resource mobilization activities, and involving traditional, religious, cultural, and sports leaders as ambassadors for the FSP.Participants a lso advocated for continued communication efforts, public meetings, and disciplined information dissemination amid the security crisis. The representative of the Chief of the canton of Dédougou expressed gratitude for the accountability initiative, reaffirming support for the authorities in their peace efforts.The organizers, including Ismaël D. Sirima from the ministry in charge of communication, urged participants to relay information to the public to effectively achieve the objectives of the Patriotic Support Fund.
