Sourou: The Patriotic Movement for Development (MPD) is set to host a significant event titled "Sourou Welle-Kan" in Tougan from February 7 to 8, 2026. This panel is intended to bring together the sons and daughters of the newly established region to lay the groundwork for its development. Mathieu Boro, the president of the MPD, emphasized in an interview with the Burkina Information Agency (AIB) that preparations are on track for an event that aligns with the new region's ambitions.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the name "Sourou Welle-Kan" translates to "the call of Sourou" in the Dioula language, referring to the broader region rather than just the province of Sourou. The creation of this new region, which includes the provinces of Nayala and Kossin, motivated the MPD to organize this event. The aim is to unite key stakeholders from these provinces to discuss and strategize on the region's development.

The 48-hour event will feature a panel discussion focused on exchanges, debates, and proposals for analyzing the region's potential and future growth. Additional activities include a fun run, market street, torch relay for patriotic commitment, civic engagement activities, and an evening of artistic performances to engage the youth.

Boro highlighted the objective of the event as engaging local stakeholders in the region's construction and development. As preparations are nearly complete, he expressed confidence in the smooth execution of the activities while addressing concerns about the town's accessibility. Boro reassured potential participants that Tougan remains accessible and normalcy prevails.

In his concluding remarks, Boro expressed gratitude to the administrative authorities and security forces of Tougan and called on all stakeholders and supporters from Sourou, Nayala, and Kossin to participate in making the event a success.
