Municipal Authorities Applaud Agricultural Volunteers for Commitment to Local Development

Banwa: Municipal authorities commend the commitment of the agricultural volunteers of the third cohort: The prefect and president of the special delegation (PDS) of the Bissiga commune, Benjamin Zalv©, received the agricultural Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) of the third cohort from the commune at the town hall on Wednesday, June 17, 2026. This meeting allowed the municipal authorities to congratulate these young people for their commitment to food sovereignty and local development.

According to Burkina Information Agency, gathered in the town hall conference room, the agricultural VDPs exchanged views with municipal authorities and technical services on the prospects for implementing the skills acquired during their training. On this occasion, the PDS, surrounded by the heads of the technical services of the municipality, welcomed the government initiative aimed at training young people in each municipality in order to strengthen agricultural production and contribute to achieving food self-sufficiency in Burkina Faso.

Benjamin Zalv© urged the beneficiaries to demonstrate determination and perseverance in applying the knowledge acquired, despite the challenges they might face in the field. “Everyone must make use of the lessons learned to contribute effectively to the agricultural development of the commune, while awaiting the support provided by the State,” he said.

The head of the municipal agricultural service, Donim© Sylvera Da, for his part reassured the agricultural VDPs of the availability of his structure to support them in the execution of their mission. The same message came from the municipal environmental officer, Dissa Bassori, who urged the volunteers to become awareness relays for other young people in the municipality.

According to him, while waiting for the operationalization of the common field envisaged for agricultural VDPs, each beneficiary must commit to putting into practice the knowledge acquired in their training and to promoting good agro-sylvo-pastoral practices within their community. In return, the agricultural VDP expressed their gratitude to the municipal authorities for their availability, advice and interest in their initiative.

They reaffirmed their commitment to contributing to the increase of agro-sylvo-pastoral and fishery production in the commune of Bissiga, despite a security context marked by numerous challenges. The meeting concluded in an atmosphere of fraternity and conviviality. Municipal authorities and agricultural VDP representatives agreed to meet again in mid-July for a mid-term evaluation of the actions undertaken and the results achieved on the ground.
