Muslim Community of L©o Reunites for Tabaski Celebration After Decades of Division

Sissili: The Muslim community of L©o consolidates its newfound unity during the Tabaski celebration. Like the rest of the nation, Muslim worshippers in the town of L©o, in the Sissili province, celebrated Eid al-Adha, also known as Tabaski, on Wednesday, May 27, 2026. Marked by a large collective prayer in the square by the cinema, this celebration underscores the renewed unity of the community after more than two decades of internal divisions.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Muslim community of L©o had experienced a break in communal worship since the year 2000 due to confessional differences between the faithful of the "red mosque" and those of the "white mosque." However, under the leadership of His Majesty Lio-Pio Dan-Zw¨, Chief of the Canton of L©o, and the local administrative authorities, a dialogue process has facilitated the return of peace.

This unifying dynamic, which began during the Ramadan 2026 festival with the resumption of communal prayer, was solidly reinforced this Wednesday on the occasion of the Feast of the Sacrifice. In his sermon, Imam Ibrahim Biyen, the chief Imam of L©o, offered blessings for the Burkinabe authorities. He praised the collective momentum that restored the unity of the local ummah and cautioned the youth against festive excesses.

Issouf Aouba, Secretary General of the Muslim community of L©o, expressed immense gratitude for the gathering in the public square. He thanked those who contributed to achieving this outcome, highlighting the support of His Majesty the Chief of the Canton of L©o, the High Commissioner, and the President of the Special Delegation (PDS) of L©o. Aouba also urged young people to exercise caution and moderation in road traffic.

The High Commissioner of the Sissili province, T©wend© Isaac Sia, expressed satisfaction with this symbol of reunion, hoping the celebration would further strengthen social cohesion in the province. The President of the parish council of L©o, Rigobert Dala, representing the Christian community, expressed solidarity and the desire for peace to return permanently to Burkina Faso.

The celebration concluded with the faithful dispersing in an atmosphere of fervor and relief, marking a historic moment in the consolidation of social peace in L©o.
