Nahouri/Fight Against Drugs: Actors Strengthen Their Capacities

Nahouri: The Permanent Secretariat of the National Committee for the Fight against Drugs (SP-CNLD) organized a training session from Monday, July 14 to Wednesday, July 16, 2025, in Pô to benefit operational structures involved in the fight against drugs. Chaired by the High Commissioner of Nahouri Province, Sié Aristide Mohamed Kam, this training aimed to enhance the capabilities of personnel responsible for suppressing trafficking and illicit drug use in Burkina Faso.According to Burkina Information Agency, around forty officers from the Defence and Security Forces (FDS)-including the national police, the national gendarmerie, customs, water and forestry, prison security guards, and the municipal police-participated in the three-day session focused on major issues related to the fight against drugs. The modules covered included the national organization of the fight against drugs, survey and data collection techniques, types of drugs in circulation, their effects, and the causes and consequences of their a buse.The High Commissioner of Nahouri Province praised the SP-CNLD initiative, highlighting its relevance given the national security context. He emphasized that illicit drugs pose a growing threat to public safety, population health, and social cohesion. Sié Aristide Mohamed Kam stressed the need for a concerted, informed, and operational response due to the evolving forms of trafficking, sophisticated concealment methods, and increasing accessibility of psychoactive substances. He encouraged participants to share their newly acquired knowledge with colleagues in their respective units.The training concluded with the presentation of certificates and rapid drug detection test kits. The permanent secretary of the CNLD, Inspector General of Police Emanoël Kaboré, expressed satisfaction with the quality of discussions and the active involvement of participants. He appreciated the commitment to improving the effectiveness of interventions on the ground and strengthening the resilience of communities against t he drug menace. Participants left the session better equipped and more dedicated to countering the drug phenomenon that significantly affects young people and hinders development efforts.
