Nahouri/Fraud: More Than 2,000 Chickens Incinerated in P´ and Dakola Due to Avian Flu Concerns

Nahouri: The veterinary checkpoint at the Dakola border, in collaboration with the gendarmerie services of P´ and Dakola, incinerated more than 2,000 chickens unfit for consumption. These chickens were fraudulently imported from a country where avian flu is rampant and were destroyed over two days, on Friday, August 15, and Saturday, August 16, 2025.

According to Burkina Information Agency, 2050 chickens packed in 205 boxes were deemed unfit for consumption and subsequently incinerated by the veterinary control post at the Dakola borders in collaboration with local gendarmerie services. The head of the post, Ibrahim Yoda, noted that the illegal importation of such poultry remains a persistent issue in the commune of P´ despite efforts to raise awareness.

"This year, 2025, has already seen a significant quantity of chickens incinerated in the first quarter, indicating a lack of public awareness regarding the health risks and consequences of consuming these chickens," Mr. Yoda stated.

Mr. Yoda praised the effective collaboration and vigilance of the defense and security forces in P´ and Dakola, urging the local population to work together with these services. He emphasized that these actions aim solely to safeguard public health and offer protection to residents.

He also reminded the public that Burkina Faso, through an interministerial decree established in 2015, has banned the importation, distribution, and marketing of poultry, poultry products, and their derivatives from countries affected by the H5N1 and H5N3 avian flu viruses.
