Ouagadougou: The Gender Platform organized an awareness-raising session on Saturday, November 8, 2025, in Po, Nahouri Province, to promote the ratification of Convention 190 (C190) of the International Labour Organization. The session was attended by the Secretary General of the Burkina Faso Trade Union Confederation (CSB), Guy Olivier Ouedraogo.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Burkina Faso has adopted and ratified legal instruments, policies, strategies, and measures aimed at eliminating gender-based violence (GBV). Despite these actions, gender-based violence persists, prompting the initiation of the training session on November 8, 2025, in Po, aimed at public and informal sector workers.

The session's objective was to raise awareness among a large public about the importance of combating gender-based violence in the workplace. Participants from the world of work and the informal sector engaged in discussions for over four hours on the process of adopting Convention 190 of the International Labour Organization and its Recommendation 206. The discussions also covered the scope of action and the trade union strategy for the ratification of Convention 190.

For the provincial coordinator of the Confederation of Trade Unions of Burkina (CSB), Binta Atiouken, and the gender focal point of Po, Benjamine Kakora Akou, the meeting was very beneficial given the enthusiasm and quality of the exchanges. 'We are equipped to meet the challenges of GBV in the world of work,' they rejoiced.

They expressed their satisfaction with the mission of the gender platform led by the Secretary General of the Confederation of Trade Unions of Burkina (CSB), Guy Olivier Ouedraogo. According to him, the large mobilization of the world of work and the informal sector of Po demonstrates that the different actors are resolutely committed to fighting against gender-based violence.

Before the start of the meeting, participants observed a minute of silence in memory of all the victims linked to the terrorist attacks.
