Nahouri: The village of Lo-Caloa, situated approximately ten kilometers east of Tiebele, celebrated the inauguration of a new three-classroom school on Saturday, November 8, 2025. The school was gifted by local benefactor Fatima Olive Abouga and her partners.
According to Burkina Information Agency, this generous donation included not only the classrooms but also an office, a shop, four complete desks, 25 student desks, and four cupboards. The school premises are equipped with essential facilities such as a borehole, a four-stall latrine, and a flagpole. The initiative was inspired by a desire to honor the memory of Yacouba T. Abem, the former provincial director of primary education in Nahouri, who tragically passed away in 2015 in Lo while on duty.
The newly constructed school will bear the name “Lo-Abem School” as a tribute to Mr. Abem. Representatives from both the President of the Special Delegation (PDS) and the Head of the Basic Education District (CCEB) of Tiebele expressed their gratitude by naming the school in his honor. Fatima Olive Abouga, who is also a cousin of the late director, emphasized the importance of remembering Mr. Abem’s contributions and thanked her partners for their support in realizing this project.
Family and friends of Yacouba T. Abem, who attended the ceremony, shared their appreciation for the tribute paid to their loved one. Dasmata Abem/Bilgo, Mr. Abem’s widow, expressed her joy and satisfaction, noting that the school would serve as a means to impart the values her husband embodied to future generations. She pledged ongoing support for the school, in memory of her husband.
The inauguration was marked by a series of activities, including tree planting, distribution of school and educational kits to students and teachers, and a community meal. The project received backing from associations such as ABEVOB, SUNGROUP, and the JAPAN-BURKINA-FRIENDRISCH-ASSOCIATION.
The Lo-Abem School, which officially opened on September 13, 2025, currently enrolls 76 students in the CP1 class.
