Nakambe Regional Council Donates Food and Equipment to Local Prisons and Security Forces

Nakambe: The Special Delegation of the Nakambe Regional Council has officially presented a food donation worth approximately two million CFA francs to inmates of the Tenkodogo and Koupela prisons. This initiative follows an earlier donation of vehicle repair equipment and fuel, valued at over ten million CFA francs, to the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) on January 8, 2026, as part of the 2025 regional action plan.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the food distribution ceremony took place at the Regional Council headquarters and was presided over by the Governor of the Nakambe region, YiYe Abraham Somdo. The Governor highlighted that these actions reflect the Regional Special Delegation's commitment to supporting both those deprived of their liberty and the forces engaged in securing the region. He emphasized the objective of strengthening solidarity and social cohesion, while supporting efforts to defend the territory.

Governor Somdo reiterated that detention is a challenging ordeal that deprives individuals of their freedom of movement but should not infringe upon human dignity or sever ties with the community. "Every citizen, regardless of their situation, remains a full member of society," he stated.

To support this belief, the Regional Special Delegation mobilized food supplies for the benefit of two penitentiary establishments. The Tenkodogo Detention and Correctional Facility received 18 fifty-kilogram bags of local white rice, 17 fifty-kilogram bags of white maize, six fifty-kilogram bags of white beans, and four fifty-kilogram bags of millet. Meanwhile, the Koupela facility was provided with 15 bags of 50 kg of local white rice, 15 bags of 50 kg of white corn, and six bags of 50 kg of white beans.

The director of the Tenkodogo prison, Tanga Jean-Baptiste Yameogo, expressed gratitude on behalf of the prison administration to the Regional Special Delegation. He noted that this donation comes at a crucial time due to the depletion of stocks at the end of the year and will help improve the inmates' food rations.

Beyond penitentiary support, Governor Somdo recalled that regional solidarity was further demonstrated on January 8, 2026, through the provision of vehicle repair equipment and fuel to the defense and security forces and the VDP to aid in securing the region.

The Governor also commended the directors and staff of the prison administrations for their daily efforts in ensuring the security of the centers and preparing for the social reintegration of prisoners, in line with the national vision of rehabilitation.

In conclusion, YiYe Abraham Somdo expressed hope that this wave of solidarity would inspire other stakeholders, particularly technical and financial partners, civil society, and the diaspora, to support initiatives for residents and ongoing presidential projects. He reaffirmed the Nakambe region's commitment to the values of social cohesion and national solidarity before officially handing over the food supplies.
