Namentenga: OST Initiative Aims to Enhance Workplace Standards and Prevent Vision Issues

Namentenga: The High Commissioner of the Namentenga Province, Adama Conseiga, presided this Wednesday in Boulsa over an awareness meeting of the Workers' Health Office (OST) with provincial directors, heads of service and affiliated companies, in order to improve working conditions and preserve the health of agents. The meeting allowed the Kaya OST team to observe firsthand the working conditions of government employees and those of companies with an affiliation agreement with the office, and to provide them with advice on improving their health at work.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the head of the Kaya OST service, Lamoussa Oudraogo, noted several shortcomings in the offices visited, including non-compliance with lighting standards and the use of outdated and unsuitable chairs. He explained that the light bulbs should be placed horizontally above each work surface to limit the risks of decreased vision, eye strain, and persistent headaches. Mr. Oudraogo also emphasized that non-ergonomic seating contributes to lower back pain and backaches among workers.

"Much remains to be done to prevent workers' vision problems and lower back pain," he stated. The participants, who admitted to being unaware of some of these standards, welcomed the advice received, believing it would contribute to improving their health and professional performance.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss the conditions for successfully completing the medical examinations for government employees and workers in companies affiliated with the OST (National Occupational Health Service), scheduled to begin in Boulsa on April 1, 2026. High Commissioner Adama Conseiga thanked the OST team for this initiative which he said would enable workers to adopt better practices to preserve their health and improve their productivity.
