Namentenga Resilience Cup: Provincial High School Triumphs Over Jan Vervoot in Handball Tournament Opening

Namentenga: The Secretary General of Namentenga Province, Karim Ismaël Thiombiano, officially launched the second edition of the Student Resilience Cup at the Boulsa Provincial High School grounds. The opening handball match saw the provincial high school's U20 girls' team claim victory with a 6-2 win against the Jan Vervoot Technical High School team.According to Burkina Information Agency, the provincial director of Secondary Education and Vocational and Technical Training, Sibiri Abdoulaye Yarbanga, stated that the competition aims to provide students with a platform for expression, joy, and learning beyond the classroom environment.On the field, the provincial high school's U20 girls' team displayed dominance, with Laurentine Lankoande, a ninth-grade student, making a significant impact by scoring three goals. The tournament, which spans three weeks, will feature 12 U20 boys' teams playing 25 football matches and 10 U20 girls' teams competing in 23 handball matches.Mr. Yarbanga emphasized the import ance of developing character and understanding the true essence of mutual support, effort, and respect for opponents through sports. He encouraged participants to uphold exemplary sportsmanship throughout the tournament.The principal of Boulsa Provincial High School, Missiri Sawadogo, highlighted the theme of resilience, as celebrated in the national anthem of Burkina Faso, the Ditanyè, which underscores the strength and heroism of the people.In his speech, Secretary General Karim Ismaël Thiombiano commended the initiative for fostering camaraderie and physical fitness among students. He acknowledged the efforts of the provincial director of Sports and Recreation of Namentenga, Joseph Sawadogo, and all those involved in organizing the event.The opening ceremony also featured a parade of teams from participating establishments, showcasing the spirit of unity and competition within the province.
