Nanoro School Sports Finals Highlight Peace and Social Cohesion

Komondjari: The final of the school organization of sports, cultural and leisure activities (OSASCL) celebrated against a backdrop of social cohesion, peace and resilience. The grounds of Nanoro A public primary school hosted the grand final of OSASCL on Wednesday, May 6, played against a backdrop of social cohesion, peace and resilience, AIB observed.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the football tournament, which was launched on March 4th and involved 37 schools divided into 6 groups, reached its climax last Wednesday. The teams battled fiercely in four disciplines: athletics, cycling, women's football, and men's football. OSASCL 2026 was held under the theme "sport and culture for peace and social cohesion," emphasizing unity, love, forgiveness, and mutual aid through sport.

The competitions allowed schoolchildren to compete, fostering better acquaintance, discipline, and solidarity. In the football finals, Godo A public primary school defeated Al Isham school of Nanoro with a score of 1-0. In handball, Nanoro A public primary school emerged victorious over Dacisse public primary school with a score of 3 to 2. Champion teams received cash prizes, jerseys, balls, and trophies.

The event featured recitals, traditional and modern-traditional dances, and storytelling. Pascal K. Guissou, Head of the Basic Education District (CCEB) of Nanoro, expressed his satisfaction with the flawless event and thanked organizers for their dedication. He also extended gratitude to partners and sponsors, promising exciting innovations for future editions, and urged district schools to prepare.

Idrissa Kondombo, first vice-president of the special delegation, praised the organizing committee for the event's success and thanked authorities for their involvement. He encouraged losing teams to remain proud, asserting the importance of sport in society. "Sport gives health; if it did not exist, it would have to be organized," he stated.

Godo A's coach, Bassirou Zoungrana, expressed joy over winning the OSASCL 2026 football final, commending his players for their play quality, discipline, and respect. He also thanked the organizers and requested improved conditions and prizes for future editions.
