National Gendarmerie Takes Over Municipal Security in Niou Commune

Kourweogo/niou commune: The President of the Special Delegation (PDS) of the Niou municipality, Salamata Maiga, presided over the handover ceremony between the national police and the gendarmerie of the Niou municipality on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. The ceremony took place in the presence of administrative, military, paramilitary, traditional, and religious authorities of the region.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the handover ceremony between the national police, after more than two years of activity, gave way to the territorial brigade of the national gendarmerie at the prefecture of Niou in the presence of the constituted bodies of the commune. The chief of the Niou canton, Naaba Karfo, stressed that every separation involves its share of pain, but emphasized the need for resignation to change.

On behalf of the communities, the canton chief commended the police station team for their work in the municipality. While welcoming the territorial gendarmerie brigade, Naaba Karfo expressed the hope that divine guidance and ancestral spirits would support the forces in their missions.

The President of the special delegation (PDS) of the commune of Niou, Salamata Maiga, stated that this handover is part of the implementation of the redeployment of security services. She thanked the national police for their services and assured the commander of the gendarmerie brigade of local authorities' support in his mission.

The commander of the new Niou territorial gendarmerie brigade, Severin Bamouni, expressed gratitude to his superiors for their trust and to his predecessor, the district police commissioner, for facilitating the transition. He committed to ensuring the safety of people and property and sought collaboration from all local forces, emphasizing that security is a shared responsibility.

District police commissioner Idrissa Ouedraogo expressed gratitude to the population, colleagues, and superiors for their support during his mission, reflecting on both happy and challenging moments. He was satisfied with contributing to peace in the community.

Provincial director of the national police in Kourweogo, Rodrigue Compaore, and commander of the gendarmerie company of Ziniare, Adama Benao, congratulated the outgoing team for their achievements. They urged the new unit to remain attentive to the community and innovate for greater effectiveness against insecurity.
