National Gendarmerie Takes Over Security in Zecco Municipality

Ouagadougou: The President of the special delegation (PDS) of the commune of Zecco, Etienne Sanglan, presided over the official ceremony marking the transition of security responsibilities from the national police to the national Gendarmerie in Zecco as part of the internal security reorganization.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the transition, after 45 years of service by the National Police in the rural commune of Zecco, was officially marked on Tuesday, August 18, 2026. This significant handover was celebrated with various artistic performances and speeches, highlighting the historical moment.

Key representatives from youth, women's groups, and traditional leadership expressed their appreciation for the contributions of Police Lieutenant Abel Sow and the successive officials and staff since the entity's inception in 1982. Comrade Sow expressed his gratitude to the residents for their cooperation over the years.

The newly appointed commander of the Zecco gendarmerie brigade, Sansan Kambou, emphasized the importance of community cooperation to achieve the objectives set for the National Gendarmerie. "We invite the people of Zecco to cooperate fully in order to allow us to achieve the objectives that have been assigned to us," he stated.

Etienne Sanglan, the President of the special delegation, acknowledged the community's active participation in the ceremony, symbolizing the conclusion of the National Police's services and the commencement of the National Gendarmerie's responsibilities in Zecco.

In recognition of their service, the 13 members of the National Police received gifts and certificates of appreciation from the special delegation and local residents, commemorating their time in Zecco. Leading figures of the Zecco commune gathered to express their commitment to the nation.

The ceremony was attended by significant officials, including Police Commissioner Luc Kabore, the provincial director of the national police of Nahouri, and Chief Warrant Officer Aime Yameogo, the acting commander of the national gendarmerie company.
