National Identification Office Relocates Services to Thyou for Biometric Card Enrollment

Thyou:The National Identification Office (ONI) has relocated its services from its regional branch in Nando to the commune of Thyou. This move, effective October 31, 2026, aims to facilitate the enrollment of the local population for the biometric identity card of the Alliance of Sahel States (CIB-AES).

According to Burkina Information Agency, the operation was organized in collaboration with the Thyou town hall and witnessed strong participation from the community. The initiative, launched earlier this year, underscores the authorities' commitment to ensuring that every eligible citizen can obtain this identification document efficiently.

The CIB-AES card, a significant innovation, is available from the age of 5 and becomes mandatory at 13, unlike the traditional CNIB, which is required at 15. Applicants need to present a birth certificate extract and pay a fee of 3,500 FCFA. Those born abroad must also provide a certificate of nationality.

Police Lieutenant Oumarou Sawadogo, head of the ONI branch in Nando, expressed gratitude to local authorities for their support and emphasized the proactive approach of reaching out to citizens. The operation, running from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., registered 211 individuals, including His Majesty Naaba Tigré, chief of the Thyou canton, who praised the initiative for enabling free movement within the AES area and strengthening communal ties.
