Oubri: The torch for the national solidarity campaign 'Deme Sira' was handed over on Friday to the Governor of the Oubri region, Ms. Assetou Sy Barry/Traore, during a ceremony held at Place de la Nation in Ziniare. This event marks the regional launch of this initiative, led by the Ministry of Solidarity, which aims to strengthen support for vulnerable populations.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the "Deme Sira" campaign is focused on social cohesion and civic responsibility, aiming to mobilize contributions in food, clothing, hygiene products, and cash for the benefit of widows and orphans, the elderly, people living with disabilities, and internally displaced persons. The handing over of the torch by the delegation from Djoro sparked a strong mobilization of administrative, customary, religious authorities, civil society, and populations from neighboring provinces.
For the governor of Oubri, this turnout demonstrates the support of the people for the vision of the Ministry of Solidarity, which places mutual aid, social justice, and the protection of the most vulnerable at the heart of its action. "Tonight's strong turnout shows that our people were waiting for this caravan. We must make the month of solidarity a moment of unity, but also a concrete commitment to those who need support," said the governor.
Traditional leaders welcomed an initiative aligned with the indigenous values promoted by the ministry, particularly community solidarity. Naaba Sanem of Ziniare emphasized that everyone's contribution, however modest, helps strengthen community cohesion. "Even 25 or 50 francs can make a difference when it comes to sowing solidarity," he stated.
Students, who turned out in large numbers, also contributed their donations to the collection box set up for the occasion. The organizers consider this gesture essential for passing on the values of mutual support and civic responsibility to younger generations, in accordance with national guidelines.
Among the contributions received was a donation of 500,000 CFA francs along with food supplies provided by the NGO APIL. "This initiative is a beacon of hope for vulnerable people. We are honored to be a part of it," said its coordinator, Abdoulaye Ouedraogo.
In line with the momentum desired by the Ministry of Solidarity, the campaign will continue in the region with several actions, including a blood drive, the delivery of food to the center for children in difficulty, and a conference on the endogenous values of solidarity.
