National Tree Day 2026: Nando Region Launches Reforestation Activities in Koudougou

Koudougou: The Nando region officially launched the activities of the 8th edition of the National Tree Day (JNA) on Saturday at the governor’s residence in Koudougou. The activity is part of the presidential initiative “Patriotic Hour to Green Up Faso”, which this year is themed “My Concession, My Tree”. The ceremony brought together administrative authorities, heads of technical services, defense and security forces, as well as guests who came to demonstrate their commitment to environmental protection.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Secretary General of the region, Lucien Guenguere, praised the vision of the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traore, who has made reforestation a national priority through various initiatives to restore vegetation cover. Reforestation efforts are seen as a concrete response to the environmental challenges facing Burkina Faso, contributing to improving the living environment, combating the effects of climate change, and promoting health thanks to the numerous benefits of trees. Guenguere encouraged the population to fully invest in reforestation for a safe and healthy environment and to promote health sovereignty.

The regional director of Water and Forests in Nando, Commander Louis Nebie, highlighted that Burkina Faso loses nearly 800,000 hectares of vegetation cover every ten years due to human activities and climate change. The presidential initiative aims to mobilize populations around the massive planting of trees and their maintenance. At the governor’s residence, about thirty plants of several species were planted by the authorities and participants. The success of the operation will depend mainly on the maintenance of the seedlings after planting, with a call to protect and water the plants to ensure their survival.

Commander Nebie also emphasized the importance of involving traditional, religious, and opinion leaders in raising awareness among the population and mobilizing communities around reforestation efforts. Through this launch activity, the Nando region intends to contribute to the national objective of re-greening Burkina Faso and to make each concession a space conducive to the preservation of the environment and the well-being of future generations.
