Nayala Celebrates Academic Excellence Through Discipline and Merit

Ouagadougou: The province of Nayala celebrated the 2025 edition of the Day of School Excellence this Wednesday at the Toma South School. Sponsored by Jean Bosco Ki, UNESCO representative, and held under the theme “Education, our strength for a better future,” the ceremony recognized 103 education stakeholders as well as sixteen top students and teachers, illustrating the role of merit and discipline in local and national development.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the day was organized under the coordination of Thomas Garane, provincial director of primary, preschool, and non-formal education, with the High Commissioner of Nayala, Honore Frederic Pare, as guest of honor. Several co-sponsors also marked the event, notably those of Hamidou Toe, school and university administration officer, and Ma®tre Siaka Niamba, lawyer.

The winners were rewarded with bicycles, school supplies, tablets, school bags, pagnes (traditional West African wraps), and a women’s Sirus Yamaha motorcycle worth 925,000 CFA francs. The 1991-1998 graduating class of Toma Sud school also presented a bicycle to the school’s top student.

In his address, the patron, Jean Bosco Ki, reminded everyone that “excellence is not a privilege, but a requirement for any sustainable development.” He urged the students to be disciplined, persevering, and respectful of their teachers, essential pillars of academic success. High Commissioner Pare congratulated the award winners on their exemplary results and encouraged the other students to redouble their efforts to be among the best in future competitions.

Pare L. Germaine, named the best teacher in the province, presented 77 students for the Primary School Leaving Certificate exam with a 100% pass rate. As a reward, she received a Sirius women’s motorcycle worth 950,000 CFA francs and dedicated the prize to her husband, stating that family support is essential to fulfilling her educational mission.

The ceremony highlighted the role of donors and the educational community in promoting excellence. It is part of a national initiative to value merit and encourage high-quality work. The patron concluded by calling for perseverance and solidarity: “Together, let’s make excellence our everyday culture.”
