Nayala: The province of Nayala celebrated Wudizon, the festival of the new millet, this Sunday in an atmosphere of unity and solidarity. After a thanksgiving mass, authorities, traditional chiefs, and people from Nayala gathered in the royal courtyard of the canton chief of Toma for a communal meal, a symbol of unity and gratitude to God for the harvest. This was an opportunity for residents of the province to contribute to Faso-Mebo and support the FDS (Forces de Defense et de Securite) and VDP (Volontaires de Defense et de Protection) forces in the province.
According to Burkina Information Agency, from 12:30, the High Commissioner of the province, Mr. Honore Frederic Pare, the chiefs of the cantons of Gossina, Kougny, Ye and Taba, as well as the provincial directors and heads of service, shared the Wudizon meal around His Majesty Emile Pare, chief of the canton of Toma.
During the ceremony, Mr. Karambiri, representing the sons and daughters of Nayala residing in Ouagadougou, symbolically presented a sample of a twenty-ton batch of cement for the Faso-Mebo project in Nayala. According to him, this gesture demonstrates the diaspora’s participation in the construction and development of their province. He commended the wisdom of the canton chief, designated as a resource person for Nayala natives in Ouagadougou, Bobo-Dioulasso, and abroad.
Speaking at the event, High Commissioner Honore Frederic Pare expressed his gratitude to the support committee and all the donors. He noted that Nayala province is the second in the Boucle du Mouhoun region to contribute to the Faso-Mebo initiative, after the regional capital. He also commended the solidarity demonstrated through these contributions, a guarantee of development supported by all.
In a show of appreciation for the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP), the canton chiefs of Toma and Yaba, accompanied by the Douti (village headman) of Kisson, presented 600,000 CFA francs to these forces for their commitment to securing Nayala. Representatives of the FDS and VDP expressed their gratitude and highlighted the progress made in restoring security in the province.
After the speeches, the guests enjoyed meatballs, an emblematic dish of Wudizon in Toma. Douti de Kisson, the canton chief’s nephew, thanked the participants and urged his peers to support the chief’s initiatives, particularly Faso-Mebo.
In the late afternoon, the festivities continued at the CELPAC (Center for Reading and Promotion of Cultural Activities) arena in Toma, where the traditional wrestling, a highlight of the Wudizon festival, took place. The arena was packed, such was the enthusiasm of the local population. As night fell, the matches ended in a spirit of fervor and joy, marking the official launch of the Wudizon in the villages of Nayala, which will continue every Sunday until January.
