Kenedougou: The municipal authorities, technical services, and active forces of the municipality of N’Dorola showed their support for the 8th edition of the National Tree Day (JNA), celebrated this Saturday under the theme “My concession, my tree”, by symbolically planting several seedlings in the landscaped area of the environment.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the ceremony was presided over by the first vice-president of the special delegation of the municipality of N’Dorola, Amadou Traore, surrounded by administrative officials, decentralized services, and many citizens mobilized for the environmental cause. On this occasion, Comrade Traore welcomed the presidential initiative aimed at strengthening the national vegetation cover through the massive tree-planting operation.
Traore emphasized the importance of the day’s activities, stating, “This day reflects the collective commitment of the Burkinabe people to environmental restoration. Beyond the symbolic act performed today, we invite every resident to plant and maintain at least one tree in their compound in order to contribute sustainably to the fight against desertification and the effects of climate change.” He urged the community to protect green spaces and make trees a central element of their living environment.
Lieutenant Ousmane Traore, head of the N’Dorola departmental Water and Forestry service, highlighted the benefits of trees for communities. “Trees are a source of life. They provide us with shade, fruit, medicinal products, wood, and contribute to soil preservation and climate regulation. Species such as the baobab, the mahogany, and the kapok tree play an essential role in our environment and local economy. It is therefore our responsibility to plant and protect them,” he emphasized.
He further noted that the success of the national reforestation initiative depends not only on planting the seedlings but also on their maintenance and protection until maturity.
