Ouahigouya: The Ouahigouya Central Police Station conducted an operation over the weekend to monitor compliance with the highway code and crack down on acrobatics on several strategic axes of the city. Sixty (60) people were apprehended and taken to the RN2 to carry out community service, an AIB journalist noted.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the enforcement operation focused on compliance with traffic lights, stop signs, and other essential rules of the highway code. On the evening of Saturday, April 26, 2025, a large deployment of national police officers on the main roads of the city of Naaba Kango made it possible to arrest around sixty people for various offenses: obstruction of public space, drunk driving, acrobatics on public roads, failure to respect traffic lights, among others.
While awaiting their verbalization, the people arrested were mobilized from the morning of Monday, April 28, 2025, to carry out community service. This work, which will last several days, involves cleaning the gutters on the RN2 national road, from the Catholic mission to the Sainte-Marie college, passing through the Place de la Nation.
According to the central police commissioner of Ouahigouya, Daouda Sori, this operation aims to raise awareness particularly among young people who commit motorcycle stunts, as well as users who do not respect the highway code. He took the opportunity to call on people to be civic-minded and respect traffic rules, recalling that accident statistics in the city are worrying.
An awareness session led by the Commissioner and his colleagues enabled those arrested to better understand the nature of their offenses and the consequences of their actions. The operation will continue with the aim of restoring order and discipline in Ouahigouya, the police authority said.
The offenders, mostly students and informal sector workers, admitted their mistakes and pledged to raise awareness among their classmates about respecting road safety regulations. As a reminder, the Governor of the North Region, Thomas Yampa, during the launch of the 2nd edition of the Days of Patriotic Commitment and Citizen Participation, under the theme: "For order and discipline: I commit myself", had, on behalf of the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traor©, urged the populations of the region to take concrete acts of citizenship, to promote the values of civic duty and to respect public affairs.
