Ouagadougou: The President of Faso, Head of State, Captain Ibrahim Traore, recently met with a delegation of Pan-Africanists in Ouagadougou. The meeting was part of the inauguration of the Thomas Sankara Mausoleum, which honors the late President and his twelve companions.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Pan-Africanist delegation, comprised of cultural and scientific figures from South Africa, Ghana, Congo, Ivory Coast, Chad, Niger, Mali, and Europe, expressed their gratitude to President Traore. The group, known for their advocacy of Pan-Africanism, thanked him for his efforts in promoting the legacy of Thomas Sankara and acknowledged the President as a beacon for African youth and its diaspora.
Professor Mamadou Koulibaly, the delegation's spokesperson and a former minister and National Assembly president from C´te d'Ivoire, emphasized the importance of President Traore's initiatives. He commended the President for rehabilitating the Father of the August 1983 Revolution through the mausoleum's construction and for the broader Memorial project, which includes fifteen infrastructure projects. The delegation also appreciated the tribute to the former President of Ghana, Jerry Rawlings, by naming a street after him and granting honorary distinctions to various delegation members.
Professor Koulibaly encouraged President Traore to continue his efforts in developing Burkina Faso and to focus investments on the pressing needs of the population. He urged the President to convey this message to other Heads of State within the African Economic Community. Furthermore, he affirmed the delegation's commitment to supporting President Traore and the Confederation of Sahel States in their ongoing endeavors: 'They are not alone. In the past, Africa remained indifferent when threats began to loom over Patrice Lumumba and Thomas Sankara. We will not remain indifferent to all the threats weighing on the Revolution in the Sahel.'
