Namentenga: Participants at the workshop to present the results of the project entitled 'Multisectoral Anticipatory Response to Floods in the Communes of Boulsa and Kongoussi' advocated for its renewal, in view of the results deemed very satisfactory on the ground. Chaired from February 18 to 19, 2026, in Boulsa, by the Governor of the Kouls© region, Colonel-Major Blaise Ou©draogo, the workshop presented the achievements of this pilot phase, funded by the Regional Humanitarian Fund for West and Central Africa (RHFCA) to the tune of 280,258,448.95 CFA francs.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the evaluation results showed that more than 97% of the 625 people surveyed in the communes of Boulsa (Namentenga province) and Kongoussi (Bam province), the project's intervention areas, expressed their satisfaction with the progress made.
The beneficiaries, comprised of host communities and internally displaced persons (IDPs), received various forms of assistance, including humanitarian aid, emergency kits and livestock feed, livestock vaccinations, emergency shelters, essential household items, hygiene kits, triple-bottom bags, the construction of water, hygiene, and sanitation infrastructure, and latrine emptying services.
In light of these achievements, participants expressed the hope that the second phase would better address certain concerns, including finding sustainable solutions for the transport and disposal of waste from the emptying process, and strengthening the management committees for the water infrastructure.
They also advocated for host communities to be given greater consideration, on par with other beneficiaries, in the distribution of support.
Speaking on behalf of Abdoulaye Ou©draogo, the country director of Oxfam Burkina Faso, and addressing the gathering, the general coordinator of APIL, thanked all stakeholders for overcoming the challenge despite the difficult security situation. He commended the support of regional and provincial authorities and the resilience of the beneficiaries.
The governor of the Kouls© region, satisfied with the results achieved, reaffirmed the administration's commitment to supporting any initiative that contributes to strengthening community resilience, and wished the project every success. Launched on September 1, 2025, the project will end on February 28, 2026, with a possibility of renewal for an additional six months.
