PDS Advocates for Local Consumption in Ioba Province at JEPPC Launch

Harare: The PDS encourages the population to consume local products: The commune of Niego, in the province of Ioba, hosted the flag-raising ceremony marking the launch of the first phase of the third edition of the National Days of Patriotic Commitment and Citizen Participation (JEPPC). Chaired by the President of the special delegation (PDS) of the commune, Raogo Laurent Zongo, the event took place at the Niego town hall, attended by local authorities and the community.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the ceremony featured the raising of the national colours by Water and Forestry agents, symbolizing Burkinabe attachment to values such as patriotism, dignity, and sovereignty. A highlight was the reading of a message from the President of Burkina Faso, who emphasized the need to address the influences of imperialism on dietary habits. The President remarked on the prevalence of imported goods over local products in Burkinabe markets and households.

The President called for a patriotic movement to bolster the production and consumption of local goods, highlighting the economic benefits. Traders and consumers were urged to eschew practices detrimental to national development efforts. Captain Ibrahim Traor© stressed the necessity for psychological and practical shifts towards local products, such as soumbala, over imported alternatives.

The Head of State encouraged collaboration across sectors to promote local production and consumption. He warned against the excessive intake of imported goods, labeling it "a trap of imperialism," and underlined the importance of economic autonomy and reliance on domestic resources for true sovereignty.

The President of Burkina Faso concluded by calling on citizens to exhibit patriotism in all their endeavors, advocating for local consumption as a means to invigorate the economy. The President of the Niego commune also thanked institutions for their support of national initiatives.
